Lamberhurst is a scenic country village with an ancient history in a central Kent location. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, Lamberhurst was a centre for the Wealden iron industry, originally set up during Roman times. Since then it had some importance for the hop industry; was home to Margaret Thatcher; acquired an extensive golf course; has controversially been by-passed; and played a major role in English wine production. The Church of England parish church is 0.5 miles (0.80 km) east of the village. The Church of St Mary The Virgin, is a Grade I listed building and includes stained glass by John Piper. Lamberhurst civil parish on formation when they first became possible in the 19th century was in both Kent and East Sussex. The line of the county border was adjusted following the Local Government Act 1894, which required that parish boundaries be aligned with counties.

Schools

When letting or buying a property in Lamberhurst often one of the main considerations will be the schools. Although there are no secondary schools in Lamberhurst there is the Fidgets pre-school and nursery and Lamberhurst St. Mary's Church of England (VC) Primary School both which both have a very good reputation for child care and young learning.

Sport

Lamberhurst has its own cricket club which was formed in 2001 from merging with the Kilndown Club. There is also the Lamberhurst bowles club which meets every 6pm weather permitting. Further afield but not far is Bewl Water which has a huge amount water activities including windsurfing, sailing and boating.

Social

There is no nightlife in Lamberhurst but there are some very good places to eat and drink. The Chequers Inn has a fine restaurant and also rooms in which to stay. The Brown Trout is a traditional local pub that serves good food and local ale. The Swan at the Vineyard is serves food and wine from around the world and has a great outdoor space for relaxing in come summer.
